Construction

  • Conductors – Sizes 14-10 AWG: solid, annealed THHN copper with solid copper ground; sizes 8 AWG and larger:stranded, annealed THHN copper with solid copper ground
  • Conductor Insulation – Color-coded Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) compound meeting the required thickness of TypeTHHN/THWN with a heat-stabilized nylon jacket rated for 90°C in dry locations
  • Grounding Conductor – Sizes 14-10 AWG: ground is 14-10 AWG solid, annealed copper; size 8 AWG sizes and larger:ground is 10 AWG solid, annealed copper
  • NM-B Jacket – 30-mil flame-retardant, moisture-resistant PVC to safety listing standards; colored according toindustry norms and specific application

Applications

  • Primary electrical conductor for residential branch circuit system, providing service for outlets, switches and 240 Volt appliance loads; cannot be used as a service entry cable, nor can it be buried
  • Allowed for use in new constructions or rewiring 600-volt applications; exposed or concealed
  • Appropriate for use in dry, indoor locations; NOT for use in wet or damp locations; do not expose to corrosive fumes
  • NM-B can be used in temporary installations as feeders and branch circuits for power and lighting per Article 590
